Arrive early to class.
We all have things to do and places to go. Rushing into a class is stressful for you, your classmates, and your instructor. Please sign up online or in the BYL mobile app. Plan to arrive at least 15-20 minutes before class to give yourself time to set up and settle in. Doors lock 5 minutes before class starts. Late students will not be admitted into class.
Check your ego at the door.
We strive to create an inclusive space where ALL bodies are welcome to breathe, move and explore. Once you step onto your mat in the hot room, you will quickly realize the power of a consistent hot yoga practice. Remember, you are on your own wellness journey. The hot room is not a place for you to show off your physique or super-human strength. Don't compare yourself to others.
Silence your electronic devices.
Please silence your electronic devices (which include cell phones and watches). Better yet, turn your devices off and unplug. You can store your devices with your personal belongings. Electronic devices are not permitted in the hot room. There is nothing worse than a ringer, alarm, or message going off during class. The heat isn't good for your device either.
Respect the space and fellow yogis.
Some of our classes can get busy, especially on weeknights and weekends. Please be neighborly and make room for your fellow classmates if you can. Do your best to stagger yourself so that everyone behind you has a clear view of the instructor and mirrors. Don't forget to give your neighbor some space. And if you came with a friend or partner, we encourage you to set up in different parts of the yoga studio so you can focus on yourself.
We are committed to providing a secure and welcoming environment for every member of our community. We support and respect transgender people's ability to use the restroom or locker room that corresponds with their gender identity in accordance with New York State and New York City laws.

Tell your instructor of personal injuries or if you're pregnant.
Many of our instructors provide hands-on adjustments, personal corrections, and/or modifications to poses/exercises. If you have any injuries, medical conditions, are pregnant, or do not feel like being touched, please let your instructor know before the start of class.
Practice cleanliness and personal hygiene.
Please be mindful of perfumes, cologne, and essential oils as the smell can be overwhelming to others. Whenever possible, bathe, brush your teeth, and wash your hair. All students are required to use a yoga mat and towel that covers your entire mat in class. Mats and towels are available to rent. We even have some for purchase in our retail area. Clean your mat and any props after class and be sure to wash your towels between each use. If you rented a towel, place it in the laundry bins found around the studio.
Respect your instructor and their sequencing.
It's inappropriate and distracting to do your own routine in class. Your instructor will provide you with modifications should you choose to inform them of injuries or pregnancy. Do not add or skip postures unless you need to take a break. Do not speak out during class or argue with your instructor about a pose. BYL instructors are knowledgeable and willing to help you.
Honor your own personal limits.
Yoga is about the journey, not the destination. Do not push yourself beyond what you are capable of. Work from where your body is today, not where you think it should be. Discuss modifications with your instructor should you need them. Always focus on form and breath over depth and speed.
Minimize conversations in the hot room.
The yoga room is a place for focus and self-reflection. Creating a quiet space supports this goal. Please avoid chatting with others in the yoga room at all times. Give yourself and others the gift of silence. Feel free to talk with your fellow students and instructors in the lobby or outside before/after class. Who knows? You might make a few new friends.
Stick around for savasana.
Savasana is the most important part of the class. It helps restore your nervous system and provides an opportunity for you to simply do nothing for a few minutes. Close your eyes, focus on your breath and feel the weight of your body against the floor. If you need to leave early, please inform your instructor, set up by the door, and leave silently with all your belongings before savasana.
